Getting home from work yesterday, the blog weighed heavy on my mind as to what I was going to share. My original idea was to do some portraits of my brother in his golf attire; however, a storm rolled through and washed that idea out. At this point I thought of an imitation image, even though I was not too crazy about the idea. So with my stomach full of dinner, my wife and I trekked over to the church where my dad is the pastor to see the new church sanctuary that has been under construction for sometime now. Shortly after, I went up to the old log church that sits up on the hill to try out my idea, which shortly did not work out. With zero ideas in my head I walked down the hill worried that the blog might not happen. But something inside me kept saying, “look around” and also thinking of my friend’s website “See The Unobserved.” And with this in mind, I analyzed a puddle from the rain that washed out my original idea and noticed how well it reflected the scene around it, and then it hit me, the steeple. Now this image is a prime example of visual aesthetics versus subject matter. The final image is actually flipped upside down. Originally, the cross was upside down, and we cannot have that. Normally, I would not have the darker area (the grass) at the top, but in order to avoid the impression that I am anti-Christian I had to flip the image. To me this image reflects what Christianity is about, reflecting Christ in the dirty/muddy world.
Romans 12:2- “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”
